Elden Ring: How to Complete White Mask Varre's Quest
Step 1: Meet the Two Fingers, Then Return to Rose Church
To begin Varre's full questline, you first need to progress far enough in the main story to meet the Two Fingers at the Roundtable Hold. After this encounter, return to Rose Church, located in Liurnia of the Lakes, where Varre will now be standing outside.
There, he'll give you five Festering Bloody Fingers, a consumable PvP item used to invade other players' worlds. This is the turning point where you can complete the next step in one of two ways—either through invasion or by battling a specific NPC.
Step 2: Progress the Quest (Two Options)
Option 1: Invade Other Players
With patch 1.06, you can now progress the quest by invading other players three times using the Festering Bloody Finger. You don't need to win—even if you leave the invasion with the Finger Severer right after entering the world, it still counts. Just remember that the Recusant Finger won't work here.
This option is great if you enjoy PvP or just want to speed through without waiting for an NPC to spawn.
Option 2: Defeat Magnus the Beast Claw
If PvP isn't your thing, you can fight Magnus the Beast Claw instead. His red invasion sign appears in a ruined building in the Writheblood Ruins, which is crawling with Bloodhounds. Defeat him, then head back to Rose Church to continue Varre's quest. This option allows you to avoid online invasions entirely.
Step 3: Receive the Lord of Blood's Favor
After completing one of the tasks above, Varre will ask you to formally join Mohg's Order. Agreeing to this grants you the Lord of Blood's Favor, a cloth item that must be soaked in a maiden's blood. This part of the quest involves some grim choices—either find a dead maiden or create one.
Where to soak the Favor:
Church of Inhibition – Located at the top of Frenzied Flame Village, this church has a maiden's corpse.
Chapel of Anticipation – Return here using the second belfry at The Four Belfries. You'll find another dead maiden.
Kill Irina – Found at the entrance of the Weeping Peninsula, though this comes with moral consequences.
Kill Hyetta – Located initially at Lake-Facing Cliffs, though killing her will end her questline permanently.
Once the Favor is soaked in blood, return to Varre at Rose Church.
Step 4: Receive the Bloody Finger and Pureblood Knight's Medal
As a reward for your dedication (and apparent willingness to commit a little maiden-murder), Varre gives you a reusable Bloody Finger, allowing for unlimited invasions, and the Pureblood Knight's Medal. Using the Medal transports you to Mohgwyn's Palace, granting you early access to one of the best Elden Ring Rune farming areas in the entire game.
This zone is notorious for its Albinauric enemies, which drop massive amounts of Elden Ring Runes, especially when paired with rune-boosting gear like the Gold Scarab Talisman and Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot. Many players come here to gain dozens of levels in under an hour.
Optional Encounter: Fight White Mask Varre
If you're curious—or vengeful—you can choose to fight Varre later on.
After reaching Mohgwyn's Palace, travel to the Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint Site of Grace.
Just outside, you'll find Varre's invasion sign.
Defeat him in combat to gain 6 Festering Bloody Fingers.
Then return to the hallway where the invasion sign was to find his dying body. Speak to him one last time, and you'll receive Varre's Bouquet, a unique weapon, and another 6 Festering Bloody Fingers.
Important Notes
If you kill Varre early in the game, you won't be able to complete this questline or receive the Bloody Finger and Pureblood Knight's Medal. However, you can still reach Mohgwyn's Palace through an alternate method.
Use the hidden teleporter north-northwest of Yelough Anix Tunnel in the Consecrated Snowfield. It requires access to the Haligtree Medallion, so it's not available early-game.
If you're a completionist or just want early access to amazing Elden Ring Items and rune-rich zones, following Varre's quest is your best bet.
Conclusion
White Mask Varre's quest is a perfect example of Elden Ring's blend of intrigue, lore, and brutal reward. Whether you're hunting Elden Ring Runes to level up fast or seeking rare Elden Ring Items like Varre's Bouquet and the Bloody Finger, this questline delivers. It's also one of the few that opens the door to high-level PvP and farming zones well before you'd reach them naturally in the story.
So, whether you're a cold-blooded invader or just a rune-hungry Tarnished looking for an edge, don your white mask—and embrace the blood-soaked path ahead.
